Aloha and welcome to Searching with Shoe!

I'm David, a lifelong nature enthusiast, data nerd, and avid birder currently preparing for a move from Virginia to the Big Island of Hawaii. Along the way, I share adventures in birding, wildlife observation, photography, and the occasional deep dive into data analysis and technology.

At home, I'm fortunate to share life with my amazing wife and our two endlessly curious (and very opinionated) Green Cheek Conures, Kai and Gin, who keep things entertaining and remind me daily that every creature has a personality worth appreciating.

This website serves as both a personal journal and a growing collection of projects. You'll find birding trip reports, wildlife observations, data-driven explorations, and updates on tools and applications I'm building to support birders, naturalists, and lifelong learners. I believe that technology should be useful, accessible, and respectful of privacy, and many of my projects are created with those principles in mind.
